Jodee March is the lead designer and co-owner (with her husband, Dan) of Horse of a Different Color, the oldest home furnishings and accessories boutique in Big Sky, Montana. After taking over the store in 2014 they expanded the retail experience to include Jodee’s interior design firm, Big Sky Redesign to be able to offer a broad range of contemporary and custom product as well as a full-service design. Foremost in her design aesthetic is the ability to connect a home’s interior spaces to Montanta’s spectacular landscape.

In her eight years in Big Sky as an interior designer, Jodee has sought to partner with artisans and furniture-makers for quality furnishing and a unique style that reflect the Montana feel her client’s expect. Eleanor Rigby Home is fortunate to be in her cadre of company and craftspeople she turns to to realize her vision for these spaces.

We asked Jodee about what she looks for in a line and why developing the relationships with vendors like Eleanor Rigby Home have become such an important part of her firm’s growth.
Q: There are many choices for leather upholstery. Why ERH?
Jodee: As a designer I love the customization potential of every piece and the responsiveness and attentiveness of Christopher and the company to me and my team. Clients fall in love with how super comfortable Eleanor Rigby Home pieces are. I have repeat customers that all they want is Eleanor Rigby Home.
Q: You always come to us with the most interesting concepts that truly reflect the Big Sky feel!
Jodee: I love the collaborative spirit of Eleanor Rigby Home. But I also appreciate the quick turnaround. We’re in a pretty hard area to get to but ERH has remained committed to the 4-6 week delivery. I also like the new ready-to-ship Express options, which may be more limited in scope but are a great value.
Q: Current design obsession?
Jodee: Scandinavian design furnishings with black, white and a pop of color. That’s not to say it is what clients are looking for- I find that people like to follow the trends for the area. Clients come with a preconceived idea of what they want their home to look and feel like and it is my job to find out what they are thinking (my masters degree as a family therapist comes into play a lot with this process…). I like to really spend time figuring out what is going to make people happy and love their new or newly remodeled home.
Q: Favorite magazine?
Jodee: I like the western home magazines, like Mountain Living and Western Home Journal that applies to our very specific area. People are coming here for the beauty of Montana so I think it is really important to incorporate that into every home here.
