Jodee March is the lead designer and co-owner (with her husband, Dan) of Horse of a Different Color, the oldest home furnishings and accessories boutique in Big Sky, Montana. After taking over the store in 2014 they expanded the retail experience to include Jodee’s interior design firm, Big Sky Redesign to be able to offer a broad range of contemporary and custom product as well as a full-service design. Foremost in her design aesthetic is the ability to connect a home’s interior spaces to Montanta’s spectacular landscape.

In her eight years in Big Sky as an interior designer, Jodee has sought to partner with artisans and furniture-makers for quality furnishing and a unique style that reflect the Montana feel her client’s expect. Eleanor Rigby Home is fortunate to be in her cadre of company and craftspeople she turns to to realize her vision for these spaces.

We asked Jodee about what she looks for in a line and why developing the relationships with vendors like Eleanor Rigby Home have become such an important part of her firm’s growth.

Q: There are many choices for leather upholstery. Why ERH?
Jodee: As a designer I love the customization potential of every piece and the responsiveness and attentiveness of Christopher and the company to me and my team. Clients fall in love with how super comfortable Eleanor Rigby Home pieces are. I have repeat customers that all they want is Eleanor Rigby Home.

Q: You always come to us with the most interesting concepts that truly reflect the Big Sky feel!
Jodee: I love the collaborative spirit of Eleanor Rigby Home. But I also appreciate the quick turnaround. We’re in a pretty hard area to get to but ERH has remained committed to the 4-6 week delivery. I also like the new ready-to-ship Express options, which may be more limited in scope but are a great value.

Q: Current design obsession?
Jodee: Scandinavian design furnishings with black, white and a pop of color. That’s not to say it is what clients are looking for- I find that people like to follow the trends for the area. Clients come with a preconceived idea of what they want their home to look and feel like and it is my job to find out what they are thinking (my masters degree as a family therapist comes into play a lot with this process…). I like to really spend time figuring out what is going to make people happy and love their new or newly remodeled home.

Q: Favorite magazine?
Jodee: I like the western home magazines, like Mountain Living and Western Home Journal that applies to our very specific area. People are coming here for the beauty of Montana so I think it is really important to incorporate that into every home here.

Q: Where can readers find you?
Jodee: If they’re in the area, visit us at: 50 Meadow Village Drive in Big Sky. Follow us @horsebigsky and @bigskyredesign

Did you know Eleanor Rigby Home now offers performance fabrics? Our newest addition to  fabric options brings you some of the best performance fabrics on the market. Made to withstand muddy paws, spilled wine and intense sun exposure, they are stain resistant, easy to clean and extremely durable. They are also soft and beautiful, with options in a variety of texture and prints.

So choose with confidence! Our time-honored methods and exacting care now include even more options for materials with 21st century expectations. Here’s why we love performance options and you will too.

1. The Resistance

No this is not about Star Wars. This resistance is all about the toughness of performance fabric. These cloths and fibers are  water resistant, stain resistant, and mold and mildew resistant. Pet has an accident? You’re covered. A glass of wine takes a tumble? No problem.

2. Easy to Clean

Performance fabrics are easier to clean and keep clean compared to other furniture fabrics.

The most common threads used for performance upholstery fabric are olefin, acrylic, nylon, and polyester. All of these threads except nylon are particularly known for their ability to be washed and cleaned easily. If you do happen to find a tough stain, use one of these top laundry stain removers before washing, drying, and unintentionally setting the stain.

3. Environmental Benefits

Performance Fabrics are sturdy

This one is specific to olefin. Olefin is made from the process of upcycling petroleum. It uses no land or water to produce and olefin possesses performance fabric qualities without needing to be chemically treated.

4. No Stretch and Shrinkage

Performance fabrics will not shrink.

We’ve all had the sweater that goes from a great fit to a super tiny in the wash. Performance fabrics are treated to ensure that the size you buy is the size you keep.

5. Fun in the Sun

Performance fabrics will not fade in color.

Performance fabrics have a quality called light fastness. This means your patio furniture can stay bright and poppy despite the strong rays of the sun beating down from above.

We’re big fans of comfort but feel strongly that you shouldn’t sacrifice style when purchasing a power recliner. Our motion recliners reflect the tailored design and unique styling of our custom upholstery and feature three different seat widths and many options for position control, all in the push of a button. We use Leggett & Platt mechanisms that are tried and tested for reliability and durability by the world’s largest furniture components company.

Another perk: our signature motion models are a modular concept so you can build a sofa or sectional to fit your exact space. And because all pieces are built separately and click together to form sofas or sectionals, they are easy to deliver and set up. This feature also allows every seating section its own control. In addition, all of our motion pieces have a battery pack option and can happily float in a room and will only need periodic charging.

Designers love our motion recliner models because they look good and feel good. We see no reason that you can’t have both.
